Privacy Policy
CostBite shows the estimated cost and macros of recipes and builds a weekly plan around a budget. This policy explains what we collect, why, who receives it, and your choices.
What we collect
- An account id. The first time you open the app we create a random user id and an install id. You can use CostBite without giving a name or email.
- Email, only if you sign in with Apple or with an emailed code. Apple may give us a private relay address instead of your real one.
- Your setup: goal, protein target, weekly budget, household size, meals per day, diets and exclusions, and where you heard about us.
- Recipes and plans: recipes you import, paste or type, and your weekly plan. For a link, we fetch the public page text. Pasted, typed or fetched text is sent to an AI model to extract ingredients.
- Price edits: the ingredient, price, pack size, date, and the optional store you type when correcting a price.
- Purchases: which plan you have, whether you are in a trial, and the renewal date. We never see your card or Apple ID payment details.
- Usage and crash data: screens you visit, features you use and errors, tied to your user id.
- Shared links and text. If you share to CostBite from another app, it is held on your phone for up to a day until CostBite opens it. It is sent to us only if you import it.
We don't collect your location, contacts, photos, microphone, an advertising identifier, or health data beyond the goal you choose. We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites, and CostBite doesn't use App Tracking Transparency.
Why we use it
To run the app (your account, plan, sync after reinstall, purchases), to estimate costs and macros, to keep the service safe and within spending limits, and to understand what works and fix errors. We do not sell your data.
Why we're allowed to use it
To provide the app you asked for (account, imports, plan, purchases); our legitimate interest in keeping it safe and improving it (analytics, errors); your consent for tips email.
Who receives it
| Who | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, purchases, subscription notices | Sign-in and billing |
| Superwall | A random billing id and purchase events | The paywall and purchases |
| PostHog (United States) | Usage events, crash reports, user id; your goal, where you heard about us and household size as profile properties | Analytics and fixing errors |
| Cloudflare | Everything we store and serve | Hosting and database |
| OpenRouter and the AI models it routes to (DeepSeek; Google Gemini as a fallback) | Recipe text | Reading ingredients from recipes |
| Loops | Your email address, and whether you've opted in to tips email | Sending sign-in codes and, if you agree, tips and cheap recipes |
| Google / YouTube | When you import a YouTube link we read its public title and thumbnail through YouTube's oEmbed service | Recipe credit and image |
Google's use of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy, and YouTube's Terms of Service apply to YouTube content shown in the app.
Images load straight from the source
Recipe photos are not stored or proxied by us. When a recipe has a photo from YouTube or a recipe website, your phone loads the image directly from that source. That host can therefore see your IP address and basic device information, as it would if you opened the page yourself. We credit and link the source next to every image. Those sites have their own privacy policies.
How long we keep it
While your account exists. When you delete your account, we remove it from our database immediately and from backups within 30 days, and we delete your contact from Loops. Server logs are kept for up to 30 days. Events already sent to PostHog are not removed automatically; email us and we will ask for them to be deleted. Purchase records may be kept by Apple and Superwall under their own policies.
Sign-in codes are service emails, sent only when you ask for one. Tips and recipe emails are optional and can be turned off in Settings. In the United States they start switched on; everywhere else they start switched off. Every tips email has an unsubscribe link. You can also opt out by writing to support@quicklease.tech. Opting out does not affect your use of the app.
Your choices
- Delete your account in Settings. This revokes Sign in with Apple, removes your data from our server and erases the app's data on your phone.
- Notifications are local reminders you can turn off in iOS Settings.
- Ask us about your data: support@quicklease.tech.
Depending on where you live, including the EU, UK and California, you can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent for email at any time. EU and UK residents can complain to their data protection authority. We don't sell your personal data or share it for cross-app advertising.
Estimates and health
CostBite's costs, prices and macros are estimates. Diet filters are a convenience, not a safety control; always check product labels. CostBite is not medical advice.
Children
CostBite is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Where data is processed
Our providers process data in the United States and other countries. Where EU or UK data is transferred, they rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date above and tell you in the app.
